To all the dudes out there, this one is for you. But first, are you scared? I bet you’re thinking that ‘real’ men do not need to moisturize. Guess what buddy, women are not the only ones who need to moisturize. You know better.
Now listen, the winter season has been out for a few months now, which means your face was probably beaten by the harsh, cold weather. That damage coupled with the ongoing beating from the summer heat means it is time to get healthier skin. We know you want smoother, more youthful-looking skin, which is why having a moisturizer or two is vital to add to your daily skincare routine.
Because it is summer and the weather is hot, humid and muggy, you definitely do not need something heavy on your skin, and the idea of slathering another layer of product on your skin in 90-degree temperatures is cringe worthy. Just know this, more sun equals more damage to the skin, so what you really need is a lighter moisturizer that you can apply daily and bring with you everywhere, and definitely one with SPF.
The first thing to consider is what kind of skin you have. Is it dry, oily, sensitive, ‘normal’ or combination? This helps because it means knowing what kind of product is best for you to use. Men’s skin tends to be oilier than women’s skin which can clog pores and cause breakouts. The oil is essential for wrinkle reduction, but as men get older, less sebum (oil) is produced. A moisturizer with age-defying ingredients is a good start.
It is not easy picking the right product to since there are thousands of them out there. But I got you covered. Below, I have broken down my top skincare moisturizers for the summer that are light, affordable, and environmentally conscious. You can feel good that you look bomb AF and you are making a positive impact on our planet—who is winning?
LAB SERIES Skincare for Men has a new product in their new advanced 8-hour oil control system series that includes an Oil Control Clay Cleanser and Mask (Dual-Use Formula), Oil Control Clearing Solution, and Oil Control Daily Moisturizer to purify and clear, swipe away oil, and hydrate the skin. We tested the Oil Control Daily Moisturizer which provides hydration and 8-hour shine control, that is perfect for “oily, blemish-prone skin and helps to diminish the appearance of pores for clearer-looking skin. It also helps fade discoloration and even skin tone over time.” It is smooth and smells like a dreamy Creamsicle bar.

The products in their new series feature Amazonian white clay which deep cleans and detoxifies skin, removing excess oil that lead to breakouts, and willow bark extract that help slough away dead skin and purify the skin.
LAB SERIES also has a “next-gen moisturizer to combat sun, dehydration, and pollution” whether it is in a congested city or in the mountains. The Day Rescue Defense Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 35 helps your skin with the elements which can dehydrate your skin, combating the look of stress and premature aging. It is best to apply all over your face and neck, and it is ideal for bald heads.

One of my other favorite moisturizers to use in the summer is the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion for the body and face. It does not clog your pores, it is non-greasy, and non-irritating and fragrance-free. It is the perfect lightweight hydration for dry skin like mine, and it is available in four different sizes.

Another really great product is the ARBONNE RE9 Advanced Prepwork Hydrating Dew Cream. The name says it all, and it is “refreshing like early morning dew,” according to their website. It is soft and soaks your skin with hydration like none other thanks to lentil seed and apple extracts. Even better, proceeds go to supporting Arbonne Charitable Foundation’s mission to empower teens.

The verdict? Everyone’s skin is different, so it is about finding the right product and the right routine that works for you. Try each product before fully investing in it. Use a small amount and see how it reacts to your skin. And one last thing, to all you dashing blokes out there doing your thing, if this is your first day starting to moisturize, do not let it be your last. Happy moisturizing!
